Sunday Letter #18

Ian,

Yesterday was another wedding. We’re getting out of the weddings to which you were actually invited, and into the ones to which you would have been invited if you’d been alive.

You would have been invited to this one, and you would certainly have gone, since you really liked the bride & groom when we met them together. It was a good wedding, with wonderful people. You would have had a blast. Been a blast.

Today is your nephew’s first birthday. I wish you could be there to see him with your family. He’s a cutie, and I’m sad that he’s not going to have his crazy, baseball loving uncle in his life.

There are so many things going on that I want to talk to you about.

And so here I am, writing to nothing.

On my drive down to my mom’s last weekend, I was listening to Lana Del Ray, and the song Dark Paradise hit home a lot.

I miss you.

-Iris

  1. The song ‘hits home’, but not the part that you wish you were dead, right—?
    Right—?
Be straight with me, on this, Iris.

    1. Honestly, yes. Occasionally. Never significantly enough that I’d act on it, but latently, passively just wish? Sometimes.
