Sunday Letter #5

Fifth installment of the Sunday letter.

Ian,

Another week. This one was better than last. I went to the last wedding we were supposed to go to together. There was a long time between the ceremony and the reception, so the group from work went to Dave & Busters to hang out. It was fun, and you would have loved it. The wedding was nice too, the food was amazing, though you wouldn’t have eaten half of it.

I was talking to a friend the other day. He’s been going through some stuff as well, and while reminiscing that it’s really hard to answer the ‘how are you?’ question, he really helped me figure out a way to explain it. He’s a writer, so he’s good at that stuff. He said that it’s kind of like being on fire. I’ve been on fire since you died. Some days, it’s my head that’s on fire, which is terrible… Others it’s my foot, which, while it’s still being on fire, isn’t near as bad as head or even hand. So when someone asks how I’m feeling, it’s hard to answer, because I’m on fire… but maybe today it’s my hand or my elbow, so it’s not as bad as the other day, when it was my face.

Lately, it’s been more legs and feet than face, which is an improvement.

I still miss you.

-Iris

  1. Reminiscent of the pain scale tool we use for kids, using smiley all the way to frowny, crying faces. How do you rate your pain…
I like that it’s identifiable this way.
